Design of Downtown Streetscape Project Near Completion, Detailed Design Concepts to be Unveiled Tuesday
CARY, NC – The Town of Cary invites the public to an Open House to view detailed streetscape design concepts inspired by Cary’s unique history and culture. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at the Herb Young Community Center, 101 Wilkinson Ave., from 6-8 p.m. The public will have an opportunity to review project information and discuss the project with Town representatives.
“We’re very excited about this nearly final design, which we believe does a great job in making our citizens’ ideas a reality,” said Senior Engineer Kyle Hubert. “We wouldn’t be where we are with the project today if it weren’t for such great public input.”
During the meeting, the project team will share new details on streetscape amenities and gathering places, such as the Town Square and Community Garden. In addition, the Town will provide information about what to expect during construction, which is currently slated to begin in the fall of 2009. The project encompasses more than two miles of downtown streets in Cary.
In spring 2007, the Town of Cary initiated the design of the streetscape project. The project will create a more unique identity for downtown Cary by incorporating pedestrian-friendly design elements such as widened sidewalks, on-street parking, and gathering areas. New gateways to downtown, water features, street furniture, street trees, and bus shelters are also planned. The project will embrace the heritage of the area, while creating a desired destination that meets the needs of Cary’s citizens, businesses and visitors. The project will also set the stage for future downtown projects.
